![]() Here are screenshots and explanation from my current game vs 2xAI9/9/9 immediately following a CPA and before I've started whittling it down. (Forcefields 1 tech from gamestart for the extra forcefield, military station with lots and lots of turrents on exposed MDC once you are at mark 2) ![]() It isn't comfortable to have an exposed MDC with only 80-100 defense worth of turrets at mark 2, so it definitely needs backup by a fleet on waves or when there's a major threat incursion. It works for me on 9/9/9 unless I get REALLY unlucky with turret controllers available to claim/hack, so it really ought to work for you on 7/7/7 as well. I mean, permanently leaving a defense fleet to defend a single position rather than shuffling it around between several chokepoints or important to protect areas is a criminal waste of a fleet given the 2200 movement speed of transports, and a bunch of turrets can stall an AI incursion for long enough for help to show up. I you are playing 7/7/7 and of you usually lose everything except core systems to a CPA, and you are staying below mark 3 until the endgame, can it be that you are simply not claiming enough turret controllers allowing you to build decent static defenses that can stall enemies until one of your defense fleets to show up? (or offense fleets to show up, as immediately following a CPA they should definitely be recalled for defense duties). The question is, does the OP play a low AIP game? (I'd get both before I was at 160 AIP.) In low AIP games that is often impossible, of course, in low AIP games you can in fact capture a data center like this with little trouble. It all depends on the map layout and the special structures a planet might have. Its okay to not blow up the AI command center. Its okay to blow up the AI command center and not build your own command center. You should have fought that battle in one system over. If you're fighting a huge battle in the same system as your HQ you've already lost. ![]() Your line of defenses should be at least 1 system away from the critical thing. If your defenses are in the same system as the critically important thing that must be defended at all costs you're doing it wrong. This means blocking off a chokepoint before the major data center. Originally posted by Hyndis:Don't capture the major data center unless you're sure you can defend it. Are the captured goodies really worth that much aggro from the AI? Thats for you to decide. Sometimes a juicy planet with a nice transport ship or mobile factory has to be left uncaptured because of major data center you can't defend. You should have fought that battle in one system over.Ĭhoosing which planets you capture and which you leave be is the main strategy of the game. Don't capture the major data center unless you're sure you can defend it.
